Online Candidate Survey Results

About a month ago, we set up a small survey for our readers to get a better idea of who they are and what they like to read. The feedback has not been huge, but enough to come to some general conclusions.

For the survey itself, we used Survey Monkey. It’s a tool that allows you to create online surveys quickly and easily. As a free basic subscriber, you are limited to 100 responses per survey. If you upgrade as professional subscriber, you’ll receive access to all the site’s features.

Although Online Candidate comes with a basic poll feature, candidates who are looking for custom surveys and feedback might want to consider using a tool like this. It’s easy to set up and integrate into the website. The tough part is coming up with a variety of good questions that will elicit the most accurate responses.

So what were the results of our Online Candidate survey? Here goes…

The majority of our users are either candidates or people that may become involved in a campaign soon.

The majority do not have campaign websites, but plan to have one. This is closely followed by users that already have campaign sites.

Email updates is the method the vast majority of our uses get updates from this site. This makes sense as we’ve used email updates far longer than newer methods, like Twitter.

The results were pretty even as to what subjects interested readers. The most popular topics were campaign fund raising, website and web marketing tips, and offline promotion tips such as yard signs, advertising etc. The least popular category was human interest stories. (With all the drama that can go on with local campaigns, we thought it might provoke more interest…)

Social media has grown tremendously. MySpace is not the social media darling anymore. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are the services our readers are using, in the order.

Not surprisingly, the majority of our visitors are seeking local elected positions. They are mostly city council/selectman/trustee type positions. There were also a few judge and school board candidates, as well.

So, who checks us out more? Republicans, Democrats or Independents? From the survey results, it looks like it’s pretty much a three-way split. That’s fine with us, since we are non-partisan.

It’s not too late to take the Online Candidate Survey. We’ll be keeping it up for a while and any feedback helps us know what you, the reader, wants to see.
