Integrate Online Donations into Online Candidate

For PayPal users, first get the HTML code you need for your PayPal button from PayPal itself. You need an account with them to do this. Go to PayPal > Merchant Services > Donations. Follow the instructions to create your button(s). Then copy and save the HTML code that is produced. (Saving this code to a text file is recommended.)

After you have your HTML code, there are two ways to add the Donation Button to your Online Candidate website. To add the button to your Contribute/Volunteer page, log into your administration account > Site Setup > Contribute Code section. Copy your button code into the Donation Code box and Submit Changes. When you Regenerate Site, the button will automatically appear to the top of the Contribute page. Be sure to test the button and make sure it all works.

You may also add the raw HTML code directly into the HTML code of any page(s) you choose. Be careful that you do not mess up the button code, and test the button(s) when you are done to make sure it works properly.

The Online Candidate Story

Our first campaign website was built for a local candidate in 2003. The site was successful and had a huge impact on the election. It helped raise issue awareness, and it forced the opponent to spend (lots of) money on a competing site. In the end, our candidate won! The success with that campaign gave us the idea of using our web skills to help other local candidates.
