Competing Political Campaign Signs On The Same Yard

We know of local voters who have woken up one morning to find political signs planted on their front yard. They weren’t asked to have the signs placed, and in some cases, don’t even support the candidate.

Sometimes these these voters leave the original sign (for whatever reason) and put the opponent’s sign up next to them. Obviously, they’re not voting for both candidates.

This is different than having multiple political yard signs for candidate’s of different parties, say one sign for a congressional candidate and the other for town mayor.

So why would a property owner leave up signs that they did not request for a candidate that they may or may not even support?

Many times where there’s a ‘good ol’ boy’ network in the local government, it’s already ‘known’ who you’re supposed to support. In our town, this happens to a lot to residents who have lived in the area for a long time. It’s a little creepy when you think about it. Because of who you know, or how far back your roots go, you are ‘assumed’ to support the established candidate – whether you are politically active or not.

What’s funny is that sometimes support for these candidates may be a mile wide and an inch deep. Real support does not come from signs, but by how many people you get to the voting booth.
